Geometric and mechanical properties dataset of marram grass (Calamagrostis arenaria, formerly Ammophila arenaria) across dune habitats on Spiekeroog Island (December 2021 - December 2022) : Exploring seasonal and site-specific variability in marram grass' geometric and mechanical traits through field investigations and bending tests
This dataset presents comprehensive geometric and mechanical attributes of Calamagrostis arenaria (formerly Ammophila arenaria), commonly known as marram grass, collected across diverse dune habitats on Spiekeroog Island from December 2021 to December 2022. The dataset includes field observations and three-point bending tests conducted on field samples, capturing seasonal variations and local disparities in plant morphology and mechanical properties. A novel categorization of marram grass based on its mechanical properties is introduced, resulting in the classification of sprout (sp), flowering stem (st), green (lg), and brown leaves (lb). The (bio)mechanical data in this dataset, obtained from bending tests, are presented as arithmetic means ± their standard deviations.
