The dataset includes the collected field data concerning the elevation-mediated pioneer plant species composition in salt marshes. The data were addressed and analysed in the paper “Biotic interactions and site characteristics mediate species-specific elevational niches in salt marsh foremost zones”. The species data (occurence: presence/absence; composition: cover in %) were collected in 2022 in the NW salt marshes on the back-barrier island Spiekeroog, Germany to test if species have different elevational niches, which are shaped by local abiotic conditions and interspecific interactions. Salt marsh species occurrences and covers were measured along 65 seaward-landward transects at two study sites differing in successional age. Elevations were extracted from a digital terrain model.. This data publication contains the original data set containing all relevant data that are needed to reproduce the results and figures of the named publication.
