New Developments of Friction Models in Brake Systems

The dynamics of friction in brake systems is correlated with the wear-process in the contact area of brake pad and brake disc. The time-dependence of characteristic patterns of wear on the brake pad was used to introduce a new theory of friction in brake systems. With a set of differential equations, describing the friction coefficient, explanations for a time-variant friction behaviour and fading effects have been found. To get an explicit insight into the dynamic changing of the surface topography in the boundary layer in detail we furthermore developed a tool, which is based on the discretization with a Cellular Automaton. In this paper we will show new results in the fundamental dynamics of brake systems.
