Bare-soil evaporation experiments under different boundary conditions: fluxes, soil temperatures, and soil water pressure head data
Evaporation experiments with an extended instrumentation were conducted in a temperature-controlled lab to validate coupled flow theory in variably-saturated porous media under different boundary conditions. Evaporation rates were measured gravimetrically, soil water pressure head was measured using mini-tensiometers and relative humidity sensors, and soil temperature was measured using thermocouples. The experiments were conducted on two packed soil samples: SAND and SILT LOAM. For both soils, three boundary conditions were applied:
(i) Wind from the top ('WIND'),
(ii) Wind from the top and constant shortwave radiation ('RAD'),
(iii) Wind from the top and intermittent shortwave radiation (RAD-I).
The dataset contains all experimental data discussed in the research article: Blöcher, J. R., Diamantopoulos, E., Durner, W. & Iden, S.C. (2023). Validating coupled flow theory for bare soil evaporation under different boundary conditions. Vadose Zone Journal, http://doi.org/10.1002/vzj2.20277.
