For a secure and reliable operation circuit breakers (CB’s) are key components in the power grid. Facing the upcoming developments in the power grid with integration of DC technologies, hybrid circuit breakers (HCB’s) will play an important role. Studies on HCB’s for low voltage applications shows promising results regarding to the proof of this concept for switching devices. In this study experiments on a mechanical circuit breaker (MCB) as a part of a HCB for DC interruption in low voltage applications are presented. The measurment setup and procedure are presented. Hence, the switching behaviour of the MCB for three different test currents is studied. It has been found, that the proposed MCB can interrupt DC currents within the range of 200 A to 600 A.
