Die Universität in Halle erkannte frühzeitig, bereits Mitte des 19. Jahrhunderts, die wachsende Bedeutung der Agrarwissenschaften und die resultierende Notwendigkeit, diese in die universitäre Forschung und Lehre einzubinden. Zu nennen sind unter anderen mit Julius Kühn die erstmalige Etablierung eines agrarwissenschaftlichen, universitären Lehrstuhls in Deutschland und zweitens die Ernennung von Emil Perels zum ersten landtechnischen Professor! Heute benötigt die Universität neue Denkanstöße, um die erfolgreiche Geschichte in die Zukunft zu führen.

In the mid 19th century the Martin-Luther-University in Halle (Saale) already recognized the growing importance of agricultural sciences and the ensuing necessity to include them in university research and teaching. Since then the university made some important decisions which left a significant mark on the history of agricultural sciences, such as the establishment of the first Chair for Agricultural Sciences in Germany and the appointment of Emil Perels as the first Professor of Agricultural Engineering. Today the university needs to develop new ideas to carry the successful history into the future.
