Das Rationalisierungsproblem in der Elektrodynamik
The different methods for rationalization in electrodynamics are to be discerned and characterized by two general points of view: (1) according to the principal kind of the method (variation of magnitudes or units) and (2) according to the magnitude respectively unit which remains invariant against rationalization. The four most important methods of rationalization (rationalization of Heaviside-Lorenz, rationalization of Giorgi, and the modifications of those two methods regarding variation of magnitudes respectively units) are explained by simple examples, their consequences are confronted, and some general conclusions are drawn. This results in-as far as in future the rational and the nonrational treatment of electrodynamics will be maintained in parallel-the method of Giorgi represents the most suitable solution.
