Wärmeübertragung durch natürliche Konvektion in starken Fliehkraftfeldern bei der Kühlung von Gasturbinen
The rotors of turbines undergo high centrifugal acceleration up to about 50000 times the acceleration of gravity. This field influences in a surprising way the heat transmission by natural convection in the water filled holes arranged in the blades of gas turbines for cooling purposes following the proposals of the author. By theoretical considerations based on experimental data it is shown that the coefficient of heat transmission inside these holes is about ten times that on the gas side of the blades. In this way it was possible to run a gas turbine with a gas temperature of 1200°C whereas the blade temperature did not exceed 500°C.
