Saumgesellschaften des Wendlandes (Niedersachsen)
The Wendland is the most subcontinental area of northern Lower Saxony. In spite of the floristic impoverishment compared with southern Central Europe, however, 9 associations and some basal communities can be demonstrated in the skirt vegetation. In partieular the helio-thermophilic skirt vegetation of the dass Trifolio-Geranietea sanguinei is described. Compared with stands of the skirt communities in the hilly country of southern Lower Saxony, the species numbers in the Wendland are clearly fewer, however, with higher cover-abundance. The possible reasons for this are discussed.
