Die synanthrope Vegetation der Stadt Wolfenbüttel

The synanthropic Vegetation of the town Wolfenbüttel (Lower Sayony) is relatively manifold with about 35 plant communities (23 associations). The distribution of the ruderal plant communities within the indi-vidual quarters expectingly is not equal, the pattern is like in Brunswick. City and new, dense settled quarters show only a few ruderal communities poor in species and often fragmentarily developed. Only on rebuilding areas short living Fumario-Euphorbion-communities are to be found. Thermophilous plant communities accumulate on railway stations, on ruins, and on rubble at the out-skirts. On fallow areas and former tracks develop long living communities dominated by grasses or associations belonging to the alliance Dauco-Melilotion. Nitrophilous skirt communities develop very well in the "Wallgebiet" and in the "Lechlumer Holz", a forest belonging to the urban area. Typical rural Vegetation is yet to be found in a few villages, belonging to the urban area, it is threatened by increasing urbanisation. The environment of a beet loading place is marked by very nitrophilous communities. Some of these associations show a clear subcontinental spreading. The occurrence of Atriplex rosea, Ficus carica and Rapistrum rugosum shows the floristic particularity of the investigated area.
