Leonurus marrubiastrum ist eine hapaxanthe Art, die in der Regel zweijährig ist, unter günstigen Umständen ihren Lebenszyklus aber auch in einem Jahr vollenden kann. Unter natürlichen Bedingungen erreicht die Art leicht eine Wuchshöhe zwischen 1,2 m und 1,7 m. Die einsamigen Nüßchen können unter Wasser keimen und sich anschließend am Ufer etablieren. Die Art erweist sich im Experiment als nitrophil. Leonurus marrubiastrum zeigte in Mitteleuropa im vergangenen Jahrhundert einen starken Rückgang, insbesondere an Ruderalstandorten. Seit ca. 20 Jahren ist jedoch entlang der Elbe eine deutliche Zunahme der Populationsgrößen zu konstatieren. Ihren Schwerpunkt hat die Art in Deutschland derzeit in flussnahen Artemisietea-Gesellschaften, darüber hinaus an der Elbe auch im Chenopodion rubri und im Sisymbrion. Als relativ kurzlebige Art ist Leonurus marrubiastrum auf gestörte Flächen angewiesen: Vorkommen im Chenopodion rubri in Nähe der Uferspülsäume sowie in tiefer gelegenen Buhnenfeldern, im Bereich des Mittelwassers auf Buhnen und Uferwerken, vor allem aber an höher gelegenen Uferabbrüchen und sonstigen Störstellen im Senecionion fluviatilis, zugleich oft im Halbschatten von Bäumen. Im südöstlichen Mitteleuropa ist Leonurus marrubiastrum auch Bestandteil dörflicher Ruderalfluren des Arction. Insgesamt kann Leonurus marrubiastrum daher nur als Artemisietea-Kennart eingestuft werden.

Leonurus marrubiastrum is a hapaxanthous species, which normally is biennial. Under favorable circumstances it can however finish its life circle within one year. Under natural conditions the species reaches a height of 1.2 m to 1.7 m. The monospermous seeds are able to germinate under water, and the seedlings are able to establish an the river banks. The species is seen to be as nitrophilous in experiments. Leonurus marrubiastrum showed an enormous regression in Central Europe during the last century. For about 20 years however a clear increase is evident along the river Elbe. At the moment its centre in Germany is to be found in Artemisietea communities near rivers, at the Elbe also in communities of Chenopodion rubri and Sisymbrion. Because it is ephemeral, Leonurus marrubiastrum depends an disturbance: occurrence in Chenopdion rubri near the drift line, near middle high water at groynes, an higher river banks and other disturbed places within Agropyretalia, and especially in Senecionion fluviatilis. Leonurus marrubiastrum is nowadays still part of village ruderal communities of the alliance Arction. Therefore Leonurus marrubiastrum is classified by us as a character species of the class Artemisietea.
