This is a translation of LeoPARD's Datenschutzerklärung (Data Protection Declaration). Only the German version is legally valid. In case of any differences in wording, meaning, or interpretation between the German and English versions, the German version shall prevail.

III. General Information on Data Processing
This data protection declaration is intended to inform the users of this repository about the nature, scope and purpose of the collection and use of personal data by the operators (Braunschweig University Library, mail ub [at] tu-braunschweig.de).
Technische Universität Braunschweig takes data protection very seriously and treats your personal data confidentially and in accordance with the statutory provisions. Since new technologies and the continuous development of this service may result in changes to this data protection declaration, we recommend that you read it again at regular intervals.
1 Scope of personal data processing
A registration (login) with personal data is only required for the submission of publications by university members, not for the search for or the read access to publications. To publish, university members log in with their TU identifier. Authorization is provided through the IDP (Identity Provider - DFN-AAI Shibboleth) of Technische Universität Braunschweig. The repository processes and stores the following user data:
- Name
- User ID
- E-Mail-Address
- Time and date of last login
- User roles (employee, student)
- Link to the publications released in this repository, incl. date and time of the last modification The storage and processing of this data is done for the performance of the task assigned to us of supporting teaching and research according to Art. 6 para. 1 lit. e GDPR in conjunction with § 3 NDSG and is required
- to prove the authorization for publication in our repository
- for communication with authors in the context of the publication process
- to prove authorship of e-publications
2 Publication data
The aim of this repository is the worldwide publication and provision of electronic publications (e-publications and e-dissertations) in the sense of Open Access. For this purpose, we also store, process and publish personal data of the persons involved in publications:
- Names und Roles (e.g. author, editor)
- Unique author identifiers (e.g. ORCiD, GND)
- Information on organizational affiliation (e.g. university, faculty, institute)
This serves to provide unambiguous confirmation and acknowledgement of authorship, citability, and better findability of the publications. With the release of the publication, we also transfer this personal data to third parties and make it available via interfaces to:
- the German National Library within the scope of the reporting obligations for the purpose of archiving and proof in the German National Bibliography
- the registration agency DataCite for the unique assignment of permanent publication identifiers (DOI)
- scientific and general search engines like Google, Google Scholar, BASE
- third parties worldwide, via interfaces such as OAI (Open Archives Initiative) and the Google Sitemap protocol
Publication and thus distribution and worldwide accessibility will only take place with the consent of the authors or editors and only after signing the publication contract.
3 Duration of personal data storage
The personal data of the data subject will be stored by TU Braunschweig only as long as the purpose of the storage exists. If the processing is based on the data subject's consent, the data will only be stored until the consent is revoked, unless there is another legal basis for the processing.
4 Rights of the person concerned
4.1 Information rights
As a user, you have the right to request free information about what personal data has been stored about you. You also have the right to have inaccurate data corrected and to have processing of your personal data restricted or deleted. If applicable, you may also exercise your right to data portability. If you believe that your data has been processed unlawfully, you may lodge a complaint with the competent supervisory authority.
4.2 Right of deletion
Unless your request conflicts with a legal obligation to retain data (e.g. data retention), you have a right to have your data deleted. Data stored by us will be deleted if it is no longer required for its intended purpose and there are no legal retention periods. If deletion cannot be carried out because the data is required for permissible legal purposes, data processing will be restricted. In this case, the data will be blocked and not processed for other purposes.
4.3 Rights of objection
Affected persons have the right to revoke their declaration of consent under data protection law at any time. The revocation of consent does not affect the lawfulness of the processing carried out on the basis of the consent until the revocation. 4.4 Right to complain to a supervisory authority
Without prejudice to any other administrative or judicial remedy, data subjects shall have the right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority, in particular in the Member State of their residence, place of work or the place of the alleged infringement, if they consider that the processing of personal data relating to them infringes the GDPR.
The supervisory authority to which the complaint has been lodged shall inform the complainant of the status and outcome of the complaint, including the possibility of a judicial remedy under Article 78 GDPR.
IV. Description of the website and creation of log files
1 Description and scope of data processing
Each time a website of TU Braunschweig is accessed, the system automatically collects data and information from the computer system of the accessing computer. In detail, the following data is collected:
- Information about the browser type and version used
- The operating system of the user's system
- The IP address of the user's system
- Date and time of access
- Web pages that are accessed by the user's system via TU Braunschweig website
The data is also stored in the log files of the system. This data is not stored together with other personal data of the user.
2 Legal basis for data processing
The legal basis for the temporary storage of the data is Art. 6 para. 1 lit. f GDPR.
3 Purpose of data processing
The temporary storage of the IP address by the system is necessary to maintain the operation of the service. For this purpose, the IP address of the user must remain stored for the duration of the session
The storage in log files is done to ensure the functionality of the website. In addition, the TU Braunschweig uses the data to optimize the website and to ensure the security of the information technology systems. An evaluation of the data for marketing purposes does not take place in this context. These purposes also constitute the legitimate interest in data processing according to Art. 6 Para. 1 lit. f GDPR.
4 Duration of the storage
The data is deleted when the respective session has ended. In the case of storage of data in log files, this is the case after 24 hours at the latest. Storage beyond this period is possible. In this case, the IP addresses of the users are deleted or alienated, so that an assignment of the calling client is no longer possible.
V. Usage of Cookies
This service uses cookies for pseudonymized reach measurement. Cookies are small files that are stored on your terminal device. Your browser accesses these files. The use of cookies increases the user-friendliness and security of this platform. Usage data is only collected and stored in anonymized form for optimization purposes.
For the optimization of our offers, personal data do not provide any added value. For web analysis, we therefore use the usage analysis software Matomo, which is recommended by data protection experts. By automatically anonymizing the IP addresses with the AnonymizeIP plugin, the collected data can no longer be assigned to specific individuals. This excludes the possibility of usage data or usage profiles being associated with personal data.
The data is used exclusively for the improvement of the publication server, which the operators of "LeoPARD" offer with their service.
VI. Contact
1 Description and scope of data processing
On the web pages of TU Braunschweig it is also possible to contact us via forms or e-mail addresses provided in each case. In this case, the transmitted personal data of the user will be stored. In this context, the data will not be passed on to third parties. The data is used exclusively for the processing of the stated purpose.
2 Legal basis for data processing
The legal basis for the processing of the transmitted data in the context of contacting us is Art. 6 para. 1 GDPR.
3 Purpose of data processing
The processing of personal data serves TU Braunschweig solely to process the contact. This is also the legitimate interest in processing the data.
4 Duration of storage, possibility of objection and deletion
The personal data that has been transmitted will be deleted when the respective purpose has been fulfilled.
If the user contacts TU Braunschweig, he or she can object to the storage of his or her personal data at any time. In such a case, communication cannot be continued or resumed. All personal data stored in the course of contacting the TU Braunschweig will be deleted in this case.
